RIPON POLICE RECOVER OVER $25,000 IN STOLEN PROPERTY WORKING WITH LOCAL TRACTOR SUPPLY COMPANY STORES
On 06-05-13, Ripon investigators announced the total value of recovered property in this investigation has exceeded $25,000. Ripon police officers have recovered a stolen construction trailer, a stolen Kubota tractor, two riding lawn mowers, and multiple high-end sets of power tools. Ripon investigators are working with law enforcement agencies in both Stanislaus and San JoaquinCounty to identify victims and return property.
RiponCA: On 06-01-13, at approximately 1100 hours, Ripon Police Officers were dispatched to the Ripon Tractor Supply Company (856 N. Jack Tone Rd.) regarding a suspicious person who was reportedly involved in thefts of property from area Tractor Supply stores. Upon arrival, management pointed out a subject who had made purchases totaling almost $2000 at the Ripon location. The suspect was in the process of loading the property when officers arrived. RPD officers Mario Ysit and Ken Husman contacted the suspect and conducted an investigation.
Officers located what appeared to be fraudulent credit cards in the suspect’s possession. Further investigation revealed the fact that the suspect had reportedly made fraudulent purchases totaling approximately $5000 at three Tractor Supply Company stores in Stanislaus and San JoaquinCounties. RPD officers recovered additional stolen property with a total value of over $5000.
Shawn Michael Tegen (53) of Railroad Flat Ca. was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on multiple felony charges including burglary, theft utilizing a forged credit card, fraud, and possession of stolen property. This is an ongoing investigation. The Ripon Police Department will be continuing to work with allied agencies in Stanislaus and San JoaquinCounties in order to fully document these thefts, and to return recovered stolen property to the Tractor Supply Company.
First Sergeant Steve Merchant said the quick call from alert employees at the Ripon Tractor Supply store, combined with the determination of the responding officers to stop the suspect from preying on local businesses were the keys to this investigation.
