DOOR-TO-DOOR SALES TACTICS CAUSE CONCERN

Ripon, CA – The Ripon Police Department has recently received a number of telephone calls regarding door-to-door sales people asking residents about children living at their homes, in an attempt to sell books.  Rumors are being spread that these book sellers are somehow involved in the human trafficking of children.  These rumors are unsubstantiated.

Ripon Police officers have identified and questioned several individuals involved in door-to-door sales of publications.  These individuals have applied for, and have received a city business license to work in Ripon.  No criminal activity has been identified or observed.

Department spokesperson, First Sergeant Steve Merchant said, “Ripon officers have responded to each and every report of questionable sales tactics involving these book sellers.  Our officers have not identified any criminal actions that could be attributed to these individuals.”  Merchant said police departments across the country have received similar complaints, regarding door-to-door sales people using similar tactics.
