POLICE LOCATE LOST RAFTERS
Ripon, CA – On 08-29-13, at 2044 hours, Ripon Police Department officers were dispatched to the StanislausRiver near Jack Tone Road in Ripon, regarding a lost rafting party. The rafters were reportedly exhausted, and lost in the dark on the river. One of the rafters was an eight year old child. Sgt. Danny Sauer utilized his expert knowledge of this remote riverine area, to search for the lost rafters. He located them within one hour. The rafters reportedly cheered when they spotted Sgt. Sauer at the rivers edge.
Department Spokesperson, First Sergeant Steve Merchant said rafters often don’t take into account the lower, slower water levels of the StanislausRiver this time of year. Merchant said, “Although this was not a life-threatening situation, we still devote resources to assist citizens in need.”
Merchant said the location of Thursday nights river incident, was the same site of a river rescue in September of 2009, when RPD pilot Ed Ormonde located two lost rafters from the air in the powered parachute.
