AUTO THIEVES LOOKING FOR RUNNING UNATTENDED VEHICLES

Ripon CA. – As temperatures drop, thieves are out looking for running unattended vehicles to steal. Last January, a 27 year old Modesto man was arrested in Ripon minutes after stealing a white Honda Accord from the parking lot of the La Quinta Inn and Suites.

An alert Ripon patrol officer saw the suspect speeding out of the hotel driveway before hitting a curb on Colony Road. The vehicle was stopped and an investigation was initiated. Meanwhile, a woman was calling Ripon police to report that her white Honda Accord had been stolen. She said she was warming up the car and left it running in front of the hotel. To her surprise, the vehicle had already been stopped, minutes before she called to make a stolen vehicle report.

Ripon Police Department spokesperson, First Sergeant Steve Merchant said, “Thieves are opportunistic. Please don’t make yourself a victim. Please don’t leave your vehicle running and unattended.”
