AUTO THIEVES LOOKING FOR RUNNING UNATTENDED VEHICLES
Ripon, CA– As temperatures drop, thieves are out looking for running unattended vehicles to steal. In January of 2013, a 27 year old Modesto man was arrested in Ripon minutes after stealing a white Honda Accord from the parking lot of the La Quinta Inn and Suites. The vehicle had been left running and unattended.

Ripon Police Department spokesperson, Lieutenant Steve Merchant said, “Thieves are opportunistic. Please don’t make yourself a victim. Please don’t leave your vehicle running and unattended. Even remote-start vehicles can be stolen.”

Lt. Merchant said Ripon officers will be out in force during the early morning hours this fall, looking for running, unattended vehicles. Owners will be contacted and advised of the dangers associated with this activity. Merchant said, “Please help keep our community safe; avoid being a victim of auto theft.”
