Dangerous Fireworks and Alcohol Lead to Arrests

Dangerous Fireworks and Alcohol Lead to Arrests
Ripon Ca. – On 11-16-14, at approximately 7 pm, the Ripon Police Department received citizen 911 reports of aerial fireworks being launched at Ripona Elementary School. The police department received additional eye witness confirmation of the illegal launches from Ripon Fire Department personnel. Ripon officers were immediately dispatched to the area.

Responding officers were aware of the fact that the department had received multiple reports of fireworks or explosions in this same area over the preceding two weeks.

Upon arrival, officers saw three suspects running through the dark, across the school playground. The suspects were quickly detained. The suspects were found to be in possession of alcohol and mortars, reportedly used to fire illegal aerial fireworks.

Corey Kindja Goodwin (19) of Ripon was taken into custody. He was released on a misdemeanor citation for discharging illegal fireworks, for alcohol possession, and for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Zachary Michael Horwood (18) of Ripon was taken into custody. He was released on a misdemeanor citation for alcohol possession, and for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

A female juvenile was located on school grounds with the suspects. She was released into the custody of her parents without charges.

Department spokesperson, Lieutenant Steve Merchant praised local citizens who provided valuable information in this case. Merchant said in addition to being an explosive fire hazard, illegal aerial fireworks are also responsible for a number of disturbance calls each year.
