Police Reach Out To Parents Regarding Safety Concerns
Ripon, CA – The Ripon Police Department is reaching out to the parents of local high school students, asking them to speak to their children about “assassin” a game that includes the mock-execution of fellow students with replica weapons. Police say participation in this game has led to injuries and the expenditure of valuable police resources.
Students pay a fee to enter the game. They are given the name of a fellow student who is targeted for “assassination.” Students often lie in wait in the darkness at homes, schools, businesses and even at church, in order to ”assassinate” their target. Students have also been known to chase each other in vehicles. The final student who “Survives” wins a cash prize.
Ripon Police spokesperson, Lt. Steve Merchant said the department has received multiple reports of crimes in progress that turned out to be students playing the “assassin” game. Merchant said, “When our citizens call 911, reporting a crime in progress, it prompts an immediate police response.” Merchant said parents need to be aware of the fact that high school students, chasing each other in cars with replica weapons, or lying in wait with replica weapons, trying to “assassinate” someone, are a public safety concern.
Merchant said in one “assassin” case, a student reportedly wearing a ski mask, armed with a plastic handgun, was attacked by a homeowner’s dog when the homeowner thought men in the darkness were burglarizing his property. It turns out they were trying to “kill” a fellow student, as part of the “assassin” game.
Merchant said, “assassin” is not a school sponsored event. “We are trying to work with parents, students and local schools to keep our children safe.”
