Suspect in custody after vehicle burglary witnessed by Alert Citizen

Ripon Ca. – On June 1, at approximately 8:34 am, Ripon Police Officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of Van Andel Way on a report of an automobile burglary. Officers received suspect information from an alert citizen in the area, and began checking the area for the thief. Surrounding local agencies were also notified of the incident and suspect and vehicle information.

At approximately 10:40 am, members of the Stanislaus County Auto Theft Task Force located the suspect vehicle in the area of Hatch Rd. and Mitchell Rd. in Ceres. The driver, Tomas Raya Jr. was taken into custody without incident.

Officer Mario Ysit and Detective Gordon West, with the assistance of Stanislaus County Auto Theft Task Force, Ceres Police Department and Stanislaus County Probation Department, conducted a search of the vehicle and a residence in the 1200 block of Sam Ave. in Modesto. A portion of the stolen property was recovered.

Raya (24, out of Modesto) is currently being processed at the Ripon Police Department and will be booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on the charges of automobile burglary, possession of stolen property, vandalism and fraudulent use of access card.
