Holiday Safety Tips

Holiday Safety Tips

The Ripon Police Department, in association with the Ripon Consolidated Fire District, would like to wish all of our citizens a safe and happy holiday season.
The following are helpful holiday reminders:
Un-plug holiday lights when not in use.
Don’t overload outlets, or run cords under carpets.
Only use lights that bear the mark of a testing laboratory.
Do not burn paper/trash in your fireplace.
Do not dump fireplace ash into your garbage can.
Do not leave burning candles unattended.
Do not leave burning fireplaces unattended.
Do not leave cooking food unattended. *Unattended cooking food is the leading cause of home fires
Test all smoke detectors & install fresh batteries every 6 months.
Have a properly rated/charged fire extinguisher in your home.
Don’t leave your vehicle unattended/running at any time.
Don’t leave valuables (firearms, purse, cell phone, wallet, laptop, gifts/toys etc.) unattended in your vehicle at any time.
Lock your vehicle at all times. If you have a car alarm, use it.
Park your car in your garage at night & lock the car.
Make sure your main garage door is closed and locked at night.
Make sure your side garage door is locked.
Make sure all of the doors/windows at your home are locked at all times. If you have a residential alarm, use it (Don’t worry about false alarms, we won’t charge you for it.)
Make sure your side yard gate is locked.
Make sure your newspapers and mail are being picked up daily if you are gone.
Do not leave outside lights on during daylight.
If you witness a suspicious person, or incident, call the police immediately! (Help us keep our city safe.)
Emergency Fire and Police first responders are on duty 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to assist you. Please report suspicious activity immediately @ 599-2102 or in an emergency, call 911. Get involved, and help our community stay safe this holiday season.
