Etch-and-Catch Event helps Cops Catch Catalytic Converter Thieves

Operation Etch & Catch Helps Ripon Police Combat Catalytic Converter Theft

Ripon, CA – This weekend the Ripon Police Department will be teaming up with Les Schwab Tire Centers to kick-off Operation Etch & Catch.  This community safety event is offering FREE etching of your vehicle’s license plate number onto your catalytic converter.  This event has been set up for Ripon residents to bring their Toyota pickups, and Toyota Sport Utility Vehicles to the RiponLesSchwabTireCenter, located at 750 N. Jack Tone Road, between the hours of 10am to noon on Saturday, November 10th, 2012
Thieves steal catalytic converters because they contain small amounts of precious metals.  Toyota trucks and SUVs are prime targets due to their high ground clearance and the installation design of the catalytic converter.  To help combat these thefts, the Ripon Police Department and Les Schwab’s TireCenter will etch the catalytic converters to deter the thieves, and to assist the police in identifying victims of theft, and to aid in prosecution of offenders.
