As one of the best equipped Police Units around, the Ripon Police Department stays on the cutting edge of professionalism with up to date technology and training.The Ripon Police Department is proud of the state-of-the-art technology that is available to the officers for the protection of our community.
The Ripon Police Department utilizes traditional marked patrol units. Officers that live within the city limits are assigned their own “take home” cars.
RPD Patrol Units are equipped with advanced tablet computers, High-Definition in-car-video systems, bi-directional moving & stationary radar, GPS location reporting, UHF Narrow-band interoperable two-way radios, and a variety of other technologies.
Each unit also carries night vision, portable alcohol screening devices, digital cameras for evidence collecting, and other hi-tech items to aid the officer in the performance of his or her duties. Officers also carry portable defibrillator units.
RPD Officers are assigned .223 caliber AR-15A3 semi-automatic rifles, equipped with EO TECH Holographic sights and ITT Night Vision. Each officer also carries a Benelli M1 Super 90 semi-auto 12 gauge entry shot gun with attached light. Issued duty weapons are Glock 21 & 22 Cal semi-auto hand guns equipped with PT night sights. The Department also has AR-15 A2 semi auto rifles outfitted with Trijicon ACOG 4 power scopes, and AR-15 A-4 rifles.
A thermal imaging device is available to patrol officers, and can be used as a tool to locate suspects, or evidence.
Two marked Artic Cat ATVs, with lights and siren are available for patrol of the river areas and special events. RPD Officers have made several arrests in areas that would otherwise be inaccessible.
Specially equipped police bicycles are available for Bike Patrol. Officers patrol the city, schools parks, and river areas. Bicycle teams are also utilized for night time burglary patrol
