The Animal
Services Unit is a division of the Ripon Police Department. Animal
Services Unit duties are performed by Wally Hartley. The Animal
Control office is located at 444 Doak Blvd, and is open Monday through
Friday, 8am to
5 pm. (Phone: 599-3146)
Adoptions and Live Animal Traps are handled during
these hours only unless special arrangements have been made with Wally
Hartley or Linda Johnston

Staff is on duty on Saturdays and
Sundays for cleaning and feeding from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. If
you are interested in adopting an animal, please call the Police
Department at 599-2102 and ask the dispatcher to have a CSO meet you
at the shelter.Utilizing one fully equipped Animal Services Unit Truck
and an additional Marked pickup, the Community Service Officers (CSOs)
respond to many types of calls for service.
At any time that you need to phone for service, call the Police Department at
599-2102 so the department can dispatch one of the Animal Control Officers.
To
afford every resident peace and harmony, the City animal control
ordinances are strictly enforced. The four most common violations
are:

to ensure that their pets do not become a nuisance for surrounding
neighbors.

The City of Ripon is bordered on the south side by the Stanislaus River. This riparian environment creates a excellent wildlife habitat. It's not uncommon for officers to see coyotes or foxes on Main St. during the night shift.
CSO's have rescued Great Horned Owls on more than one occasion.
They have also had the "pleasure" of responding to calls of
"Help there's a skunk under my house!" Additional types
