| Cell calls used to be routed through a phone
bank, and then back to the individual emergency provider closest to the caller.
That took precious time. "When you receive emergency phone calls, every bit of time is critical," said Chief Richard Bull. The Department's new system uses GPS (global positioning system) that gives the police dispatcher the exact latitude and longitude of a caller. These call can be traced on a map even if the caller is in a car. This new technology will enable the Ripon Police to respond faster and better.
