The JPA
program has been well received with the City's
resident youth and has expanded every year. Designed to expose
Ripon youth to law enforcement career options, the classes run during
the summer months, and give students a chance to explore the career
opportunities in a "hands-on" environment.

Basic Class (Students must have a "C" average or
above)
During
the one week basic class, the students are introduced to the
following:

- Ten Code
- Phonetic Alphabet
- CHP Motorcycle Officer
- Guest speaker from local law
enforcement agencies, which include an area SWAT Team, Motor
Officer,
K-9 Unit, and Equestrian Units
- Field trip to the Ray Simon Training
Center (Police Academy)

Students conduct a mock crime
scene investigation, and receive instruction on police report writing.
Students who have successfully completed the
basic JPA class are eligible to attend the advanced class.
Advanced
JPA (two week summer camp)
Graduates
of the Basic Class will be sent an invitation the following year, to
participate in the Advanced JPA. All returning students must participate in an oral
interview to be considered for a seat in the advanced Class. These students must also submit a report card with a B average
(no exceptions)

Students will be exposed to:
- Physical Agility course
- Shooting Simulators (Ray Simon Training Facility)
- Physical Training (dragging 150 lb dummy)
- Driving Simulators (Ray Simon Training Facility)

Advanced J.P.A. graduates may come back as Junior
Instructors:

These students must complete 12 hours of community service between
August and February and participate in an oral interview.

ACADEMY

- 8:00 a.m. - noon
- 259 N. Wilma Avenue (Police Station,
tentatively)

Ages:
- 10-13 years (5th-8th grade)

Cost:
- $25.00 per student. Students
receive a "Junior Police Academy" T-shirt, Hat, Shoulder Patch,
Binder, and a Certificate of Completion
|
|
|
Qualifications:
- "C" average, no criminal
contact with the Ripon Police Department. (Copy of Report Card
must accompany the application.)
