Ripon Police Department

“Protect, Serve and Maintain our Quaility of Life”

Volunteers in Police Service

Become a Volunteer

Here is the opportunity to have an impact on your community, working side by side with the staff at the Ripon Police Department.  You will have a chance to assist our officers, work at special events (e.g. Almond Blossom Festival, Christmas Light Parade, etc.) or work at the Animal Shelter.

Training will be provided for whichever area you choose to lend hand.

VIPS

The Volunteers In Police Services or VIPS as they are commonly known, are citizens 18 years or older, who donate their time to assist the Police Department in a variety of areas. These generous citizens enhance the Department’s ability to serve the community and are a vital part of the Police Department.
VIPS members receive training in many areas so that they may serve the community in a professional and effective manner. Some of these areas include:

  • Radio Skills
  • Traffic Control
  • Crime Scene Containment
  • Vacation Checks
  • Driver Awareness
  • Welfare Checks
  • CPR
  • First Aid
  • Clerical Support

All applicants must submit a completed application, pass an oral review board, and complete a background check. Applications may be picked up in the Police Department lobby, or can be completed online. Applications are accepted on an continuous basis.
